Do GEO Agencies Guarantee Results? What Can Honestly Be Promised
Most GEO agencies do not guarantee results: in the 10-agency comparison we maintain, 6 of the 10 promise no outcome in writing, and the few that do guarantee very different things under the same word. As of October 2026, the guarantees published by the agencies in that comparison fall into three kinds: effort guarantees (deliverables will ship), trend guarantees (a traffic or visibility number will move, usually remedied with more work rather than money), and outcome guarantees (a defined visibility result by a date, remedied with cash). Only the third kind transfers risk from the buyer to the agency, and it is rare because it requires the agency to define a floor precisely enough to fail it.
The three kinds of GEO guarantee, and what each is worth
Effort guarantees promise the work: audits delivered, pages shipped, schema deployed. They guarantee inputs, which the invoice already guarantees. Worth little as a guarantee, though honest agencies state them honestly.
Trend guarantees promise a number will move: AI-referred sessions up a percentage, mentions trending upward. Two questions expose them: measured in whose tool, and what happens on a miss? The common remedy is continued service, which means the agency keeps the money and the buyer keeps waiting.
Outcome guarantees promise a defined result by a date with a cash remedy: named on specific queries, on specific platforms, by a specific review, or the money returns. These are the only guarantees that cost the agency anything when missed, so they are the only ones that discipline the method behind them.
What no honest GEO operator can guarantee
AI answers are probabilistic and change between runs, so some promises are dishonest on their face no matter who makes them. No one controls what a specific person sees on a specific day. No one guarantees the #1 recommendation slot, every query, every platform, or permanence after an engagement ends. No one guarantees outcomes inside a model’s closed ranking. The honest version of the craft is narrower: raise the probability of being named on agreed queries to the point where a floor can be set under it, state the floor, and pay when it is missed. A guarantee that promises more than that is describing a market the seller does not operate in.
How to read any GEO guarantee in four checks
- The unit: what exactly counts as success, and is it countable by the buyer without the agency’s tool?
- The denominators: out of how many queries, and how many platforms? A bar with no denominators can be satisfied by anything.
- The date: when is the miss decided, and is the review on a calendar from day one?
- The remedy: cash on a date through the original payment rail, or more of the service that just missed?
The full 13-point version of this test, with the red flags each point catches, is in the red-flags guide. Published guarantee terms across 10 agencies, quoted from their own pages, are compared in the guarantee comparison, and the choice between cash and credit remedies is settled in money-back vs a free extra month.
Where Citant.ai stands
Citant.ai publishes one outcome guarantee, on the GEO Pilot: the brand is named on at least 3 of the 10 agreed target queries across at least 2 of the 6 tracked platforms within 9 weeks, or every Pilot payment is refunded, initiated from our side within 24 hours of the week-9 review. The queries are agreed in writing at kickoff, the counting rule is published, and the remedy is cash, not credit. The full terms are on the guarantee page.
Frequently asked questions
Why do so few GEO agencies guarantee results?
Because an honest outcome guarantee requires three expensive things: a floor defined precisely enough to be failed, measurement the client can reproduce, and cash at risk on a date. Most agencies price none of these, so they guarantee effort or trends instead, or nothing.
Is a guarantee a sign of manipulation or black-hat GEO?
The incentive runs the other way. An agency that must return the money on a miss gains nothing from manipulation; the cash remedy is what disciplines its method. The guarantees to distrust are the ones with no cash at stake, where nothing disciplines the claim.
Can an agency guarantee a #1 position in ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews?
No. AI answers vary between runs and between users, and no outside party controls a model’s ranking. Being named at all on agreed queries is guaranteeable as a probability floor; a specific position for a specific user is not.
What results can a buyer reasonably expect in the first 90 days?
Movement on agreed queries where the brand has a legitimate claim: being named on some of them, on some platforms, with the trajectory often visible by the midpoint. That is why a well-built guarantee sets a defined floor under agreed queries and platforms rather than promising the whole board.
